How important is setting goals in business?

Happy New Year. It’s the time here where we do goal setting where we do New Year’s resolutions and, you know, setting up all the ways for the things that we want to achieve, and the new year,  It’s January 10th, so I bet you most people have already dropped their new year’s resolution!

One thing that makes a goal stick, is writing the gold down on a piece of paper, something that you could see, and it’s visible. Maybe it’s my bathroom mirror, I try it out personally, it works wonders,  because you see it a few times a day, or if you have it on a piece of paper in front of you, or in your office or the place of work where wherever you work in your car, maybe.

If it’s visible, your I mean, you notice it in your brain kinda takes a look at it and says, hey, that’s where we’re going. And it will automatically adjust your actions and your thoughts to get to

that goal.

Setting up new goals gives you confidence and self-esteem.

Setting up new goals gives you confidence and self-esteem. It also gives your team confidence and self-esteem because they know as a whole or as a company where we’re going.

For most companies that are not doing well, there could be a few reasons behind that:

They don’t have a goal. They don’t know where they’re going. They don’t know how much sales they want to achieve. How many customers? Are we focusing on customer service? are we focusing on improving our sales, sales process conversion rates? What are we doing? Nobody knows, including the owner.

Once you make the goals clear, it gives people a clear direction to work on or a clear goal to work towards.

It’s very, very, very important to set up goals both personally and for your business.

To make this easy, I have put a simple workbook together. It’s a one pager that allows you to track numbers for the past 12 months, and set up goals for the new year.

Here are a few numbers that you can track for your business:

    • Sales for the past 12 months
    • Current number of employees
    • Current number of customers
    • Average dollar value per client
    • Number of vacation days or weeks that you took in the past 12 months

Write that down. And then you could spend some time and think about what you want to achieve for the next 12 months.

Again, sales, number of customers, number of employees and the rest of it.

This one piece of paper will allow you to get up early in the morning, because now you have goals.

If you haven’t set up goals for yourself and for your company, you’re doing yourself and people around you a huge disservice.

If you haven't set up goals for yourself and for your company, you're doing yourself and people around you a huge disservice.

Spend a few minutes and write your goals down. And it’s very important that you actually write it down.  If your goal is just in your head, and if it’s up in the air that doesn’t have much of a chance to get achieved.

But if it’s written down, it becomes tangible.  It’s something that you have reference to and something you can work with.

Download the one sheet, it’s a PDF, I put the link here on the descriptions and fill it out.

Let me know what you think. And we’ll take it from there.

In my next video, I’m going to talk about setting up your target market, which is another thing that makes it very easy for you to do your advertising, very easy to target and focus your marketing pieces for the people that you want to go after and makes it easier for you to grow your business.
